These resources are part of the STOP the Coward Punch Education Resources, created in collaboration with Danny Green’s STOP the Coward Punch Campaign.

These 5 Science lessons for Years 7 - 10 have been designed to

  • investigate the forces behind a coward punch, analysing the motion, energy transfer and impact on the human body
  • apply Newton’s laws of motion to understand how forces act during a punch and a resulting fall
  • explore the physiological stress response, examining how the nervous and endocrine systems react in high-adrenaline situations
  • analyse the effects of head trauma, explaining how force impacts the skull and brain upon collision with different surfaces
  • perform calculations for force and energy, applying physics concepts to real-world scenarios involving impact and injury
  • model real-life falls using experiments with falling objects to assess variables like surface type and rebound height
  • connect science to social awareness, applying an understanding of body systems, physics and motion to evaluate how coward punches can lead to severe or fatal outcomes

Through hands-on experiments, calculations and scientific analysis, students will develop a deeper understanding of the real-world dangers of coward punches and the devastating impact they can have on individuals and communities.
