We often only think about the cost of things we buy in terms of the money we had to pay to purchase that object. In this activity you’ll investigate the less obvious costs of the things we buy, and consider their true cost to not just your bank account, but to the world.

Investigate a product from the list below and identify the true costs of this product (social, economic and environmental):

Research your chosen product online to find out these costs, then produce an infographic describing these costs. Your diagram could be in the style of a circular flow diagram like this one:

Reflection

The three main players in our economy are households, businesses and governments. What role do you think each group should play in reducing the true cost of the products we consume?
