Encourage your kid/s to go beyond answering the prompts with one word and explore in depth what the prompts are encouraging them to consider about the book. They should think critically about how the book has been created to deliberately make them feel a certain way.

This is a great chance to interact with your kid/s to get a sense of what they do and don’t like in books. It can be hard for boys especially to get excited about reading. Make a list of books they like and books they really don’t like or couldn’t finish, and discuss common themes and ideas in the two lists. Do they like books with action? Humour? Are some books too hard to read?

Learning@Home resources are designed for parents and teachers to use with children in the home environment. They can be used as stand-alone activities or built into existing curriculum-aligned learning programs. Our Learning@Home series includes two types of resources. The first are fun and challenging real-world activities for all ages, the second are self-directed lessons for upper primary and secondary students.
