Action Stations: Spread the Earth Hour message

Earth Hour belongs to you. Celebrate your commitment to the planet with your friends, family, community or at work - in your own way. A simple event can be just turning off all non-essential lights from 8.30pm-9:30 pm. For one hour, focus on your commitment to our planet for the rest of this year. To celebrate, you can have a candle lit dinner, talk to your neighbours, stargaze, go camping, play board games, have a concert, screen an environmental documentary post the hour, create or join a community event - the possibilities are endless. By taking part in Earth Hour Action you can become a part of the movement and start using your power to take serious action on climate change.

Your Challenge? Global warming affects the foods that we love. Aussie farmers are on the front line of rising temperatures and increasing extreme weather. Yet most people don’t understand how rising carbon pollution from burning coal and gas affects our food and farming by making global warming worse. We’re calling on the youth of Australia to help educate adults.

In this activity, you will be making an advertisement for Earth Hour by creating a video, infographic, image, poem or story about how climate change is affecting your favourite food or farming region of Australia. Your project should be aimed at primary school students.

You will need to consider:

1. What is your favourite food or meal? Ice cream, spag bol, burgers, fruit salad? Why do you love this meal? Or alternatively - what is your favourite farming region of Australia? The Murray Darling Basin? South-West WA? Northern NSW? Why do you love this place?

2. How is your favourite food, meal or farming region of Australia affected by rising temperatures and more extreme weather? You can find resources and information in the Earth Hour Toolbox.
